The Incredible Years: Social Emotional Group

OhioGuidestone is offering The Incredible Years: Social Emotional Group for children ages 3–5 this summer at its Lorain location, 2173 North Ridge Road. Sessions will take place on Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. beginning June 5 through August 7, 2026.

The program provides hands-on, play-based learning experiences designed to help young children better understand their own emotions and those of others while building important school-readiness and peer-interaction skills. Children will explore emotional awareness, managing big feelings, following directions, and developing positive friendship skills in a supportive environment.

OhioGuidestone Summer Groups in Lorain

OhioGuidestone is offering a variety of summer support groups for children, teens, and adults at its Lorain location, located at 2173 North Ridge Road. These programs are designed to help participants strengthen social-emotional skills, build confidence, and develop healthy coping strategies in supportive group settings.

Programs available this summer include:

Girl’s Friendship Group for ages 9–12, which focuses on self-concept, identifying strengths, and building positive peer relationships using cognitive behavioral skills.

SPOTS of Emotions with Friends for ages 6–8 uses the Little SPOT of Emotion curriculum to help children strengthen social and emotional learning skills.

The Incredible Years group for children ages 5–7 is an evidence-based program designed to support emotional development, persistence, social skills, and academic competence while helping prevent behavior challenges.

Quieting the Anxious Mind, a supportive program that teaches participants strategies for managing anxiety, regulating emotions, and reducing stress through sensory-based coping techniques. Groups are available for both teens and adults.

2026 Oberlin Chalk Walk

OberlinKids will host the Kids Zone at the 2026 Oberlin Chalk Walk on Saturday, June 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 23 Eric Nord Way in the East College Street Courtyard behind Slow Train. This free, family-friendly community event will provide children and families with a safe and engaging space to create, play, and explore throughout the day.

Families can enjoy games, activities, community resources, and art-themed literacy kits while supplies last. The Kids Zone will also feature a child-friendly art experience created by 2026 Chalk Walk featured artist Rebecca Boardman.

The event is designed to give children a fun and creative place to play away from busy roads while celebrating art, literacy, and community connection in downtown Oberlin.

The session will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will provide children and caregivers with an engaging opportunity to explore music, movement, and interactive activities in a supportive environment.

Public Works Open House

The City of Oberlin is inviting residents to celebrate National Public Works Week at the Public Works Open House on Saturday, May 16, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will take place at the General Maintenance Division Service Complex located at 538 Hill Creek Drive and is free and open to the public.

Families will have the opportunity to meet the city employees who help keep Oberlin running through services including water and stormwater treatment, wastewater management, public buildings, parks and grounds, solid waste and recycling, fleet management, and street maintenance. The event will feature a community cookout, equipment demonstrations, and informational displays about city services, utility systems, recycling programs, street safety, and city parks.

Children and families can also enjoy a variety of hands-on activities including Touch-A-Truck, painting a plow, face painting, photo opportunities, and recycled craft activities. In addition, plant tours will be available at the Water Treatment Plant on Parsons Road and the Water Environment Protection Facility on State Route 511. Transportation to tour sites will not be provided.

Oberlin Juneteenth Parade

The Oberlin Juneteenth Parade will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2026, beginning at 12:00 p.m. Community members are invited to come together to celebrate freedom, honor history, and build community during this vibrant neighborhood event.

The parade will begin at Oberlin Spring Street Park and continue along Groveland Street to Edison and Main Streets, ending behind McDonald’s near the pavilion area. The event highlights unity, freedom, and joy while recognizing and reclaiming Black history for future generations.

Oberlin City Schools Sports Summer Camp

Oberlin City Schools is offering a Sports Summer Camp for students in kindergarten through 6th grade at Oberlin High School this summer. Camps will take place Tuesday through Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with lunch provided and transportation available from the City of Oberlin's Playground Experience.

Students can participate in a variety of sports-focused camps designed to build skills, confidence, teamwork, and friendships while staying active throughout the summer. Volleyball Camp will take place June 8–12 and will focus on serving, passing, and hitting skills.

Basketball Camp, scheduled for June 15–19, will help students improve shooting, ball handling, and defensive skills in a fun, high-energy environment.

Soccer Camp will run June 22–26 and offer students opportunities to strengthen their footwork, passing, and scoring through drills and scrimmages.

Football Camp will take place July 6–10 and will focus on teamwork, key football skills, and game fundamentals.

Cheer Camp, also scheduled for July 6–10, will help students build confidence, cheer skills, and friendships in an exciting camp atmosphere.
