Understanding OCD: Diagnosis, Themes, Myths, and Treatment • Mental Health, Addiction and Recovery Services (MHARS)
For Counselors and Social Workers: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a debilitating condition affecting an estimated 1 in 40 U.S. adults. Yet research shows that, even among mental health professionals, OCD is frequently overlooked or misdiagnosed. This isn’t due to a lack of compassion, but a lack of training in graduate school and beyond. People with OCD experience intense suffering, and they require specialized therapy to break free and regain control of their lives. In this workshop, you’ll expand your understanding of OCD. You will gain the tools you need to more effectively identify and diagnose people with OCD – possibly even some of your existing clients. And you’ll learn how Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold standard for OCD treatment, helps people gain freedom from OCD. This workshop will include hands-on practice in diagnosis and treatment planning.
