Spirit Night & Story Time Celebration

  • Live Story Times for kids

  • Photo opportunities with the Chick-fil-A Cow and Baby Cow mascots

Behavioral Health - Counseling - Community Services

Lorain County Community-Based Services

Applewood Centers, Inc. is a private, nonprofit social service agency that provides behavioral health and educational services for children and youth from birth to age 18 and their families. Dedicated to addressing a variety of mental health, emotional and learning problems, our team in Lorain County offers an array of community-based services, including outpatient counseling, psychiatry, in-home therapy, school-based counseling, parent coaching on behavior management, and prevention and education services. Services are provided from our offices and in the community.

Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH)

Services for children, birth to age 6, who are in homes that are experiencing overwhelming stress or have concerns that might affect the parent’s or caregiver’s ability to parent. This program also assists children who are:

  • Victims of domestic violence or other trauma

  • Having sleep difficulties

  • Experiencing attachment difficulties

  • Having any difficult behavior

IECMH Therapy includes a comprehensive diagnostic assessment, treatment planning, and play-based child and family interventions to address developmental, social/emotional and behavioral issues.

Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS)

MRSS is a short-term, intensive community-based support program for youth in crisis that can include: safety assessments, de-escalation, skill building and linkage to ongoing support. This service is free to all families with children ages 2 - 20 and provides in-person services. To access the program, guardians can contact the state crisis hotline at 888-418-6777.

Multisystemic Therapy

Therapeutic and case management services for youth with serious behavioral problems and who are at risk of becoming involved with the juvenile justice system, as well as for youth exhibiting problematic sexual behavior.

Outpatient Counseling

For children and adolescents who have mental health issues. Services are provided by licensed social workers and counselors and includes individual, family, and group therapy.

Psychiatry Services

Psychiatry evaluations, medication management, and collaboration with primary care physicians regarding psychiatric medications.

School-Based Counseling

Year-round individual counseling, assessment and case management services. Prevention groups for students; classroom observation and consultation with teachers, parents, and other school personnel; and educational presentations for teachers, students, and parents.

2025 After-School Enrichment Program

Program Details:

  • August 25, 2025 – May 22, 2026

  • Monday – Friday (when school is in session)

  • After School until 6:00 p.m.

  • Eligible Grades: K – 5

  • Location: Oberlin Elementary School (210 North Park Street)

  • Cost: $130.00 per child / per school year – with sliding fee scale for families with multiple children in program

Oberlin After-School Enrichment Program (OASEP) participants will enjoy a variety of activities, including arts & crafts, board games, indoor gym, card games and playground games to name a few. After-School participants will attend homework lab, where homework help is available to students from Recreation staff and Oberlin College tutors. A light snack will be provided.
